Cindy Sherman

Cindy Sherman (Nueva Jersey, 1959) is an American artist, photographer and film director. Sherman is one of the most important representatives of the Postwar photography in New York exhibiting more than three decades of work in the Museum of Modern Art in 2012. Turning the camera to herself, Cindy Sherman has been one of the most respected photographers of the 20th century. Although most of her photographs are picturing herself, her works are not self-portraits. Sherman uses herself as a vehicle for a variety of topics that reflect the modern world: the role of women, the role of the artist, and many more. Through a number of different works, Sherman has raised important questions about the role and representation of women in society, the media, and the nature of creation.
