Abraham Cruzvillegas

Abraham Cruzvillegas (Mexico City, Mexico, 1968) lives and works in Mexico City. He studied pedagogy at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma of Mexico from 1986 to 1990 in Mexico City, and was part of the Friday Workshop with Gabriel Orozco.
His artistic process is deeply influenced by his surroundings.
Among his most important exhibitions and projects are Empty Lot, Tate Modern, London, UK (2015); MALI in situ: Abraham Cruzvillegas, Lima Art Museum, Lima, Peru (2015); Self-construction, Jumex Museum and Amparo Museum, Puebla, Mexico and Mexico City (2014); Abraham Cruzvillegas: The Self-Building Suites, Haus der Kunst, Münich, Germany (2014) and Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, United States (2013); Self Builder’s Groove, Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Diens, Berlin, Germany (2011); Self-construction, the Film, The New Museum, New York, United States (2011).
He participated in various biennials in which his work has been included: 12th Sharjah Biennial, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (2015); 12 Biennial of Havana, Havana, Cuba (2015); The Shanghai Biennial, Shanghai, China (2012); Documenta 13, Kassel, Germany (2012); 12th Istanbul Biennial, Istanbul, Turkey (2011); 50 Venice Biennial, Venice, Italy (2003), among others.
